Currently, all barber licensing in Connecticut falls under the Connecticut Department of Public Health – Cosmetology & Licensing group.

Connecticut Barber License Requirements

1000 training hours at a barber school
Apprenticeship is not currently permitted for a barber license.
You must complete a barber only examination in either English or Spanish

Connecticut Barber License Renewal

It costs $100 to renew your barber license in Connecticut for a 2-year period. Renewal date is the last day of your birth month. Late fees may apply if you miss the deadline. Connecticut requires you to complete 10 hours of cosmetology continuing education during each licensure period to renew.

Connecticut Barber License Reciprocity or Transfer

Connecticut requires that reciprocity and transfer applicants have received training in their home state equivalent to that of CT. Otherwise, applicants for license reciprocity may substitute up to 500 hours of this requirement with licensed work experience. You must provide verification of licensing from your home state to the CT Board, and pass a written exam to transfer your license. There’s a $100 application fee.
