Currently all barber licensing in Oregon falls under the OR Health Licensing Agency (OHLA) in Salem. It is considered a separate discipline from hair design, and includes shaving, trimming or cutting of the beard, as well as arranging, cutting, styling, dressing, shampooing, cleansing and conditioning or temporary curling of the hair.

Oregon Barber License Requirements

  • Barber License – 1100 Hours
  • Barber Instructor License – 2 Years Work Experience

Oregon Barber License Renewal

Licenses expire in the last day of the month two years from the date your license was issued. Barber licenses cost $20 to renew. Oregon requires 30 hours of continuing education during each licensure period in order to renew your barber instructor’s license, and it costs $25 to renew.

Oregon Barber License Reciprocity or Transfer

Reciprocity in Oklahoma allows a practitioner licensed in another state to qualify for an Oregon barber license. You must show a minimum standard of quality assurance and competency. The regulatory board in your home state must mail an affidavit of your licensure to the Oregon board, you must submit the $100 fee and application for certification by reciprocity and pass the written examination.
