Austin's School of Spa Technology has been educating beauty professionals in the Capital District for over 80 years. We take pride in our comprehensive course offerings, and we are the only full service salon school in the Capital District offering programs in Cosmetology, Barbering, Esthetics, Nail Technology, Make Up Artistry and Tattoo Artistry.

Our classrooms are equipped with salon workstations and salon equipment and our Mirror Images Spa and Salon student clinic gives you the opportunity to practice your skills on real clients. Austin's students train using top of the line products and receive a kit full of product and tools based on their program. Now Austin's is the most technologically advanced beauty school in the area with tablets now included in student kits. The new tablets allow students to live stream their classes as well as take pictures for their portfolio.

Cosmetology

At Austin's School of Spa Technology you will learn the skills and techniques necessary to become a top professional in the beauty industry. As a cosmetologist you will have the opportunity to pursue a career that will ignite your creativity and fulfill your passion as an artist.

The Cosmetology program focuses on the development of the skills and knowledge that you will need not only to pass the New York State Appearance Enhancement Licensure Exam but also to become an exemplary, talented professional and reach your full potential as a stylist.

You can be on your way to a new career in the beauty industry in as little 48 weeks! Upon completion of this 1035-hour program you will be awarded a certificate and qualify to apply for a New York State Appearance Enhancement License.

Barbering

The word "barber" brings up a lot of old fashioned images - but modern barbering is a whole new adventure.

Austin's School of Spa Technology is the only school in the area which offers a Barbering program where you can learn traditional barbering techniques and skills, with a cutting-edge flair. As a barbering student, you will learn from instructors who have real world experience. Plus, you will receive hands-on training with CHI Man products and Andis styling tools.

Through our program you can train to become a barber in as little as 32 weeks. Upon completion of this 600-hour program you will be awarded a certificate and qualify to apply for a New York State Professional Barbering License.

Esthetics

Esthetics is the art and science of skin care. A career in esthetics allows you the opportunity to bring out the inner beauty of your clients, and help them look their best! At Austin's, our Esthetics program focuses on teaching you the skills you need to become an exemplary professional in skin care.

Through our Esthetics program you can train to become an esthetician in as little as 32 weeks. Upon completion of this 600-hour program you will be awarded a certificate and qualify to apply for a New York State Esthetics Professional License.

Nail Technology

Nails are the accessory that everyone can wear and wear well. In Austin's Nail Technology program, you will learn the three major applications of artificial nails: acrylics, wraps and gels. Also, you will learn how to deliver an amazing manicure and pedicure and the latest trends like how to use Shellac UV nail polish.

The program will also provide you with a solid foundation in the science of nail care, with a focus on safety to protect you and your clients.

Upon completion of the 300-hour program you will be awarded a certificate and qualify to apply for a New York State Nail Technology License.

Make Up Artistry

The Make Up Artistry certificate program prepares you to specialize in the art of make up application in a variety of beauty fields like Bridal, Fashion, Performing Arts and Retail Sales. This new program is the most in depth and hands on program in the area emphasizing the integration of theory and practical experience. You will start with learning the fundamentals of makeup application - how to analyze facial features, skin types and bone structure to determine the appropriate technique to create the right look for the right occasion or event. This program also gives you the opportunity to focus on two specific areas of make up application of your choice - Bridal, Airbrush, Creative/Special Effect and Photographic/Film. Upon completion of the program you will have a portfolio and the skills to start a professional practice along with your makeup kit.
