Idaho Board of Barbering & Idaho Barber License

Idaho State FlagUpdated February 19, 2013

Currently all barber licensing in Idaho falls under the Idaho Board of Cosmetology – Bureau of Occupational Licenses in Boise.

Idaho Barber License Requirements

  • Barber Stylist License – 1800 Hours
  • Barber License – 900 Hours

Idaho Barber License Renewal

Idaho requires barber license renewal every year by your birthday. The cost to renew your license is $20 annually. Currently Idaho does not require barbering continuing education hours to renew your license, but CEUs are always recommended to stay current in the industry.

Idaho Barber License Reciprocity or Transfer

Idaho does not do barber licensure through reciprocity. In order to transfer your barber license to Idaho and be eligible for licensure by endorsement, you must show that you have had an active license in your home state for 3 of the last 5 years, meet Idaho training requirements, show that you’ve taken a practical and written exam, qualify for endorsement, be at least 16 1/2 years old and a 10th grade education. If you do not meet these transfer requirements, you must take Idaho’s barbering exam and you may be required to take additional training hours to meet Idaho’s minimum. Work experience counts at a rate of 200 credit hours per year of real-life work experience. The transfer fee is $85.
