Indiana Barber License Requirements

  • Barber License – 1500 Hours

Indiana Barber License Renewal

Indiana barber licenses expire on September 1 every 4 years. If your barbering license has been expired more than 3 years, you must re-take the practical exam to get re-licensed. The cost to renew barber licenses in Indiana is $40, but if you are late there is an additional $50 penalty. You can renew your license up to 60 days prior to its expiration, and 24 to 48 hours later can print a free license card, or you can order a blue card online for $13.75. Indiana does not currently require barber continuing education hours to renew, but CEUs are always recommended to stay current in the industry.

Indiana Barber License Reciprocity or Transfer

Barber license reciprocity is granted in Indiana on a case-by-case basis depending on whether your home state has similar or equivalent education and licensing requirements. There is a $40 fee and an application to transfer your barber license to Indiana. If your license does not meet the same standards that Indiana requires, you can instead have a minimum of 1000 hours of training plus 5 years of work history. In this case, you would need to provide a work affidavit form showing that you’ve worked in the field for a minimum of 5 years (500 hours per year).
