Currently all barber licensing in Nebraska falls under the Nebraska Board of Barber Examiners in Lincoln.

Nebraska Barber License Requirements

  • Barbers – 2100 Hours
  • Barber Instructors – Barber License + 18 Credit Hours of Post-Secondary Training in Education +

To get licensed in Nebraska you must be at least 17 years of age and have your high school diploma or GED.

Nebraska Barber License Renewal

All barber licenses in Nebraska are renewed on a two-year cycle, ending on June 30 of each even-numbered year. Barbers, barber instructors and barber assistant instructors cost $90 to renew. Barber shop licenses and booth rental permits cost $100 to renew. Barber schools cost $400 to renew.

Nebraska Barber License Reciprocity or Transfer

To apply for barber licensing in Nebraska by reciprocity, you must have current and active original licensing from your home state, certification from the home state’s board of barbering, and pay a reciprocity fee of $235.
