Currently all barber licensing in North Dakota falls under the ND Board of Barber Examiners in Minot.

North Dakota Barber License Requirements

  • Master Barber License – 1500 Hours

If you fail the first attempt at the board exams, you will be required to take an additional 160 hours of training at a barber school.

North Dakota Barber License Renewal

ND barber licenses are renewed annually before July 1. The fee to renew a Master Barber license is $100.

North Dakota Barber License Reciprocity or Transfer

To transfer your barber license to North Dakota, you must be at least 18.5 years old, have a high school diploma or GED, and have graduated from a school of barbering with equivalent or greater to ND’s required 1500 hours of training. In lieu of meeting the 1500 hours requirement, each year of the applicant’s barbering work experience can be substituted for 200 hours of instruction. You must have a current, valid license in your home state and the barbering board in your home state must certify your licensure being in good standing, and that you have worked full-time as a barber in your home state for at least 3 years.
