Currently, all barber licensing in Arizona falls under the Arizona State Board of Barbers.

Arizona Barber License Requirements

1200 hours training at barber school
Apprenticeship is not currently permitted for a barber license.
The initial license costs $140 to acquire. You must provide proof of graduation from a barber school, and proof of at least a 10th grade education.

Arizona Barber License Renewal

It costs $80 to renew your barber license in Arizona for a two-year period. Renewal date for personal barber licenses are printed on your license. Barbershops must renew by June 30 annually. Late fees may apply if you miss the deadline.

Arizona Barber License Reciprocity or Transfer

Arizona has reciprocity with 27 states (AR, CA, DE, GA, ID, IL, IN, IA, KS, KY, LA, ME, MD, MA, MI, MS, MO, NE, NH, NM, ND, OH, SC, SD, TX, WI and WY). Applicants for reciprocity must be at least 16 years old, provide a passport-sized photo, prove at least a 10th grade education, a copy of your current barber license from your home state, notarized proof of 1 year work experience as a barber, and submit the application and materials with a $175 fee.
