Arkansas Board of Barbering & Arkansas Barber License

Arkansas State FlagUpdated June 7, 2012

Currently, all barber licensing in Arkansas falls under the Arkansas State Board of Cosmetology.

Arkansas Barber License Requirements

1500 training hours at barber school
Apprenticeship is not currently permitted for a barber license.

Arkansas Barber License Renewal

Arkansas barber licenses must be renewed every two years in odd years by the licensee’s birthday, in two-year intervals after the year you got licensed originally. Barber licenses cost $40 to renew.

Arkansas Barber License Reciprocity or Transfer

The Arkansas Board of Barber Examiners can help with barber license transfers. In Arkansas, they do not accept barber apprentices fresh out of school unless they have equivalent school training hours, except Louisiana, which has a 3-year apprenticeship training program. You must have had similar barber training hour requirements in your home state and/or have your barber license for 3+ years. All reciprocity and transfer applications are considered on a case-by-case basis. International barber licensees must prove they are both licensed and experienced, and take the practical exam.
