Currently all barber licensing in Iowa  falls under the Iowa Bureau of Professional Licensure – Iowa Board of Barbering in Des Moines.

Iowa Barber License Requirements

  • Barber Practitioner License – 2100 Hours

Iowa Barber License Renewal

Iowa barber instructor licenses are renewed biennially.  Licensed barbers must complete 8 hours of continuing education to renew their license in each 2-year period.  Barber instructors must get 4 hours of training in teaching methodology in addition to 8 hours of continuing education to renew each year. The 2-year licensure period is July 1 to June 30 of each even-numbered year. The Iowa Board of Barbering does not accept online or independent study continuing education credits.
