Currently all barber licensing in New Hampshire falls under the NH Board of Barbering, Cosmetology & Aesthetics in Concord.

New Hampshire Barber License Requirements

  • Barbers – 800 Hours oR 1600 Hours Apprenticeship
  • Master Barbers – 1500 Hours OR 3000 Hours Apprenticeship
  • Barber Instructors –

New Hampshire Barber License Renewal

All Hew Hampshire barber licenses expire every two years, on the last day of the licensee’s birth month in odd-numbered years. Barber instructors are required to obtain 28 hours of continuing education during each licensure period.

New Hampshire Barber License Reciprocity or Transfer

To transfer your barber license to new Hampshire, you must provide your current, active license from your home state, complete a reciprocity questionnaire, a completed Certification of State Licensure form directly from your home state’s barbering board, must have taken a hands-on practical exam and national written exam in English, and show transcripts of your barber training hours. If you do not have the required 1500 hours of master barber training that New Hampshire requires, you must provide a notarized letter from a previous employer or coworker stating that you have 3,000 hours of work experience as a barber. Applicants to transfer barber licenses to New Hampshire must show proof of a high school education or GED, or if you are 21 are older, a photocopy of your birth certificate or driver’s license.
