Oklahoma Barber License Requirements

  • Barber License – 1500 Hours OR 3000 Hours (18 months) Apprenticeship
  • Barber Instructor – Barber License + 600 Hours

Barber apprentices must be at least 16 years old, and under the direct supervision of an Oklahoma licensed barber with at least two years of practical experience as a licensed barber.

Oklahoma Barber License Renewal

Barber and barber instructor licenses renew annually on June 30. Barber apprentice licenses renew every two years from the date of issue. The costs to renew licenses in OK are as follows: barber – $25, barber instructor – $50, barber school or college – $200. Late renewal fees are twice the cost. Licenses expired more than 5 years are not renewable, and you must re-take the examination, unless you were unable to renew due to active duty military service. No continuing education hours are required in order to renew your license at this time, though this requirement is always subject to change.

Oklahoma Barber License Reciprocity or Transfer

Anyone who holds a current barber license in another state or entity may apply for an OK barber license by reciprocity if you currently hold a valid license in your home state and the requirements are substantively equivalent to those of Oklahoma, and the home state must allow an Oklahoma barber to also become licensed in their state by reciprocity. The cost of a reciprocal license fee is $200. If you are licensed in a country outside of the U.S., all records must be certified and translated to English.
